A Good first edition hardback in the original publisher's decorated cloth binding.

The cream cloth boards feature attractive gilt decoration to the front and gilt lettering and decoration to the spine. The boards show considerable age-related staining, and marking, with some rubbing and wear to the cloth, particularly around the edges and corners. The spine remains intact, although the gilt lettering is somewhat rubbed and there is visible wear to the head and tail.

The binding remains generally sound and the text block is complete. The page edges have an aged green colouring. Internally, there is some foxing and spotting , particularly to the preliminary pages and endpapers, with some further foxing and age toning throughout. The text and illustrations remain clear and readable. No inscriptions or bookplates are visible in the photographs.
