For many of us, one of the great pleasures in reading is to share a good book and debate its finer points. We are currently running three clubs as shown below and maintain a waiting list as necessary, which could result in us launching further clubs in the current months. If you are interested in joining any of the existing clubs or being part of a new one please speak to us at the shop or email browse@archwaybookshop.co.uk. Members are entitled to a 10% discount on the recommended retail price of each book.
Axminster Club 1
led by Carol Glennon Jennings
Meets on the first and third Thursdays of the month at 6pm in the quiet meeting room at The Community Waffle House, usually for an hour to an hour and-a-half. At present there are 12 members. The club focuses solely on fiction – everyone has a chance to recommend, and the group decides which to go with and in what order.
Axminster Club 2
led by Karen Armstrong
Meets on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 7.45pm in a quiet area of the Community Waffle House. The discussion is wide ranging before sometimes awarding a ‘hit or miss’. Has covered a range of fiction and biography and books that linked to world events. The book choice process varies – from group chat, or from recommendations by the shop, friends and family.
Colyton Club
led by Phil Hutt
Meets at 2.30pm on the second Monday of each month. The venue is Colyton Garden Shop, which means that you can grab a coffee / cake to enjoy with the debate. The focus is usually fiction, with each member able to anonymously propose books. The identity of the proponent is not revealed until the discussion has taken place and marks have been awarded.
