William Boyd

William Boyd was one of the select – and incredibly prescient – 1983 list of Granta’s ‘Best of Young British Novelists’, following his Whitbread First Novel Award victory two years earlier for the brilliant colonial farce A Good Man in Africa. In the years since, Boyd has consistently dazzled in both quality of output and range, tackling everything from the tour de force of writerly endeavour Any Human Heart, to the compelling, complex portrait of primate researcher Hope Clearwater in Brazzaville Beach. Along the way, Boyd picked up a Costa win for his story of secrets and spies Restless, returning to espionage of a different kind in Solo, the author’s take on Ian Fleming’s 007. In 2018, Boyd published his grand European romance, Love is Blind.
