DON’T be deceived by our small frontage — this is is a true book-lover’s paradise with a vast array of books and greetings cards spread over two floors.
The building occupies a delightful position at the heart of a town whose name has been synonymous with luxury carpets for over 250 years. The stone arch that gives our shop its name is believed to have come from the ruins of nearby Newenham Abbey, which dates from 1247.
The premises have been a bookshop for over 50 years and have built a loyal local following as well as some from further afield. We are proud to have a band of non-local customers who simply enjoy buying from a traditional bookshop where they are treated as individuals by staff devoted to old-fashioned courteous service.
Our aim is to cater for book lovers of all ages — and that includes the very youngest, who have their own “Kids Cave”. We believe strongly in reaching out into the local community, and in supporting schools and individual book clubs. We are also proud to operate a booking service for a host of local events.
